What's in a name?

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet."- This famous Shakespearean quote has stood the test of time, and quite frankly raises a good question. How much does a name really mean. I am not sure why but very randomly I just started noticing peoples' names, and nicknames. Think about it- a kid in school's name is George but everyone calls him Frankie- Why?! But it's not ridiculous- situations like that really exist. In middle and high school usually kids try on different nicknames, or some kids have them from birth: Named William but always called Billy. It's just really strange the whole naming thing, and what people refer to themselves as. Sometimes I hear other peoples' names and I just think they sound way more interesting than mine does. Like a blog about "the Life of Lulu", or "Everyday Elsie".

From when I was a little girl I always was called Danielle. When my parents chose my name my dad made sure it was know that he liked the whole name and not a shortened down nickname. I didn't really have an issue with that at all, and I think it's the reason why I never got a nickname from birth. But in middle and high school I started to get some nicknames: Nelly, Nell, Elle, Yellie, Danielley, DL, and Bonnie. I never minded any of them at the time. However I absolutely HATE it when people call me

100th Post Blogiversary

Dear Readers,

A little less than two years ago I began Blogging. I started this blog with a hope to be able to share some of the things I enjoy (My sister got me started on it). Although I admitted the difficulties of me blogging in my first post- I feel like I have actually made good progress since then. I went from blogging every couple of months or less, to blogging a few times a week on average.

My blog went through the floundering around beginning posts about really random stuff. The photo project phase... which I didn't make it through. The diet-blog phase... which definitely helped boost my reader base. Then this past fall I sort of started writing about whatever was happening in my life, which lead to the Sound of Music Marathon Posts; which I definitely have to thank for my blogs increased reader base and the habit of more frequent blogging. I feel as though I am doing a good job using my blog as a creative outlet. I still feel like 100 posts is a very young blog, but I am proud of how far it has come. I have reached well over 10,000 views at this point, and days that I do post I usually get a few hundred views! I feel so great to know that people are reading the things I post. I feel like I have a voice, and an audience that's listening.

I can say I am not sure what the future holds for this blog. I have tons of ideas floating around in my head. I'd like to start a special feature type of day, more fashion/makeup posts, and some crafting! I'd like to keep posting on a consistent basis, and maybe get to form a real network of other blogging friends. I might look into advertising and some other options of that nature. I realize I am still here trying to find my blogging voice, struggling for refinement, but part of the beauty of my blog is that it is random and messy just like my brain. I see life as a beautiful disaster, full of imperfections and disorder (ironic how much I like organization), so why shouldn't my blog be a little random and messy, like me?

I'd love to hear from those reading your favorite types of posts, and what you would like to see more of. I do write these posts partly for me (and a good mental health project of mine) but also for you. Those who read my blog really help me feel loved and appreciated. I feel like you are right there with me experiencing what I am, and getting to know me and the inner workings of my brain with each and every post.

Please submit requests about what you would like to see... via comments below :)
Thanks to everyone who reads, to those who have inspired me, and to those who said I have inspired them!

I like the simple things

I feel so great today!
I found out I did well on my astronomy exam, and I got to go out of class early.
I moved my recital a bit later which is a huge relief!
I even had a super relaxing and productive lunch hour at Night & Day

Don't forget to enjoy the simple things, like a bright blue sky, or whipped cream on your coffee.

Broomstick Magic!

So tonight something amazing has occurred! We have discovered the ability to make a broom stand up straight on it's bristles. I was told that something to do with the planets or gravitational pull was the cause- but before you freak out about how rare and amazing this stunt is.... you should know that apparently at anytime brooms can be made to stand up balanced! Most brooms can work for this, and if you balance it just right it will stand straight up! (It's slightly less exciting when you know you can do this any day... however it's still really exciting and cool looking when you do it the first time!.. and not a bad party trick ;)

Haha, I might be a little gullible when it comes to stuff like this- but either way it's pretty freakin cool!
We even got a second broom standing!!

We got pretty excited/amazed so we decided to balance it on other things too! So funny... haha it's late.

You know you want to try this at home, so do! And why not tell a few people the planetary alignment joke, or save it for a Halloween trick! Have fun, and go grab those brooms!

PS. this post is very true to the name of my blog: I Like Boring Things :)
